I am a 42-year-old woman who can honestly say I can’t remember not having a headache since I was 8 or 9 years old. My mom took me to all different kinds of doctors, taking every test known to man, to see why I had headaches.

Headaches have always been normal for me. I don’t know if I was born with a neck torsion or if, through several accidents, I just made things worse.

I was a cowgirl and had a very fun and wild horse which I loved to race! However, there were a few times my saddle slipped and I ended up hitting the pavement at full speed ahead. Or times when she reared up and fell back on top of me. Also, several times I hit pavement rollerblading too fast down the hill, not being able to stop without falling down.

I am a strong woman who just thought taking a lot of NSAIDs [nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs] daily was as normal as taking Vitamin C.

When moving to Italy in 1996, I had a head-on collision, and then another car T-boned me. From then on, my body has never been the same.

Like I said, I am very fit. I am a personal trainer and a competitive fitness professional (or, at least, I was). Until 2003, my body continued to grow weaker, and the pain increased. Not really understanding what was really wrong with me, the doctors looked at me like a deer in the headlights and just suggested I take antidepressants since it must be in my head because they didn’t know why I was hurting so bad. They tried: I had two epidurals, had 36 facet shots in my spine, did physical therapy, did chiropractic and acupuncture therapy, and took four different kinds of pain pills a day.

Then, I finally found a doctor who was willing to come alongside and help me, finding several things wrong with me inside: stage IV endometriosis, interstitial cystitis, and three ulcers. Yet, the spine problems still weren’t fully clear . . . something still wasn’t right.

I had headaches so bad, and the pain in my neck and upper back had gone from a continuous 6-7 pain scale daily to 10 plus. The pain was unbearable. During this time, I had more mouth pieces than a professional football team! I had three different dentists/oral specialists at one time just trying different things to help with the pain. I had cracked eight teeth from the severe pain I was in and the secondary grinding and gritting from this pain.

When we moved to Virginia in March of 2006, I didn’t know what I was going to do about the lingering pain. I just happened to pick up a health magazine and found an article about Dr. Vann, who did a procedure called the ALF. I didn’t know what it was, but I thought I couldn’t go wrong by just talking with her. She explained to me how the ALF had worked on herself and how she had helped several people with pain similar to mine. So, my husband and I decided to step out in faith because, at this point, nothing had worked so far. (I should mention at this point that my husband is a medical executive for one of the largest worldwide health care systems, and he too was at his wit’s end with helping to find a traditional cure.) We sat down and knew financially it would be a stretch . . . but if it worked, it would be well worth it!

Within three weeks of having the ALF, the pain had dropped 30 percent. The headaches were fewer, and for the first time in my life, I knew what it was like to not wake up with a headache. When I did get a headache, it just meant the ALF needed to be adjusted. Through the next year ,the pain grew less and less, and now I am on the home stretch. My braces are on, and for the first time in years, my teeth fit together. My face and head don’t hurt all the time, and I feel somewhat normal!

I am not 100 percent better, but I can honestly say that 80 percent is doing super for me, and I’m hopeful this will increase to total health!

If you’re someone who has chronic head and neck pain, and you have tried everything under the sun, Dr. Vann’s procedure just might be the one for you. It can’t hurt.

Dr. Maribel Vann has been my dentist for over 16 years, and in that time she has made amazing improvements not only in the health and appearance of my teeth and their restorations but also in the overall health of my entire body as well. Through her knowledge of state-of-the-art dentistry and orthodontia, Dr. Vann treated me with Advanced Lightwire Functional (ALF) treatment, which cured me of lifelong bruxism (teeth grinding), car/motion sickness, and lower back pain.

Now, I can read a map or book in the car without discomfort; I no longer need a chiropractor for my back; and I was finally able to have Dr. Vann restore my smile to a natural beauty with gorgeous porcelain veneers on the teeth that were so badly worn down, now that the urge to grind my teeth has completely ceased.

I LOVE my new smile, I LOVE my restored health. I trust my children to Dr. Vann’s caring and capable hands, and I would recommend Dr. Vann’s services to anyone, without hesitation!

I am now a believer in the ALF treatment and the connection with the craniosacral system of our body. I have attended regular dental visits and adhered to a daily regiment of brushing and flossing since I was 5 years old. In my 30s, I began to experience symptoms of TMJ (clenching and grinding my teeth with periodic jaw aches and cracking my molars). On three different occasions, my dentist fitted me with a mouth guard to prevent my teeth from further cracking, which I also broke.

I researched my problem and talked to dental specialists who recommended invasive surgery and, of course, pain. After two root canals and every molar tooth capped, I noticed Dr. Maribel Vann’s article. I met with her for a consultation in 2004 and began the ALF treatment to correct “right torsion cranial strain.” I also followed Dr. Vann’s recommendation to have cranialsacral therapy. Quite frankly, I was skeptical and referred to the whole process as “voodoo.” Strangely enough, I found the combination of treatments effective and amazing.

Additionally, working with Dr. Vann created a warm and pleasant experience. Of course, I was concerned about pain and did experience minor discomfort for about a day after some of the ALF adjustments, which was handled with Tylenol or Advil. During the last six months of my treatment, I wore braces, which did create periodic minimal pain.

After two years of treatment, my bite fits properly; my smile is straight; I am free from jaw pain; and, most importantly, I am not clenching and grinding my teeth. I am now a believer in the treatment and therapy supported by Dr. Vann with the overall harmony of the cranial mechanism with the entire body.

Maribel M. Vann, DDS, is a highly skilled, talented, and dedicated dentist. I have been her patient for more than 15 years. She listens to her patients and really cares about them.

A friend of mine needed dental care and did not know where to go. She was afraid of dentists, and her only experiences were bad ones. I recommended that she see Dr. Vann. Fortunately, she listened and was amazed at how kind and gentle she was. She and her husband both became patients and now have great oral health and sparkling smiles.

Several years ago, I was clenching my teeth together while I slept. My teeth were cracking, and pieces were breaking off. Dr. Vann said, “Joan, I can help you.” Fortunately, I listened. She made an appliance (an ALF), and after great dedication on her part, I am now cured. My teeth are now strong and healthy. Interestingly enough, the severe neck pain I had suffered with for years also disappeared.

If you are looking for dental care, you have now found the best!
